Here are some of the news stories that have opened up this week so far.
XCOM Shooter Is Alive?;
With the game market dominated by first person shooters 2K Games thought they could get a slice of the pie with a remake/reboot and an old series called XCOM. Because the game took so long to develop, they cobbled together a strategy game based on XCOM called “XCOM: Enemy Unknown.” If Valve has tought us anything with a cobbled together game called “Portal” when “Half-Life 2” spent long in development, I will be a smash hit. Because Enemy Unknown was such a hit, the FPS that it was meant to be its bigger brother may not happen. At the beginning of last week it seems that the FPS had gone into development hell with its site and YouTube videos being taken offline and 2K seeming like it was trying to sweep the whole thing away. But today it seems that it is still alike with 2K saying that it is still alive and in development. As long as they say it is. But I think people would want to have more Enemy Unknown as well as squad shooter.
A Ratchet & Clank Movie;
Yes there will finally be a “Ratchet & Clank” film. “Ratchet & Clank” is a series that has spanned the Playstation 2 and 3 and was the first American game to be sold as a bundle with the Playstation 2 in Japan. If you want to have a full rundown on the information that’s out so far, check it out on my blog here [“Quick Guide To The “Ratchet & Clank Movie”].
A COD Siphon;
Kathryn Kirton siphoned off £18,963 from the advertising budget of “Call of Duty”. “She spent £9,437 at designer clothes store Reiss on one of three shopping trips along with another £2,000 on a luxury hotel break for her then fiance” according to the Daily Mail. Activision opened an investigation when it found out about her “odd” purchases she had made on the company credit card. She, and her co-defendant Jamie Kaye, both pleaded guilty at Blackfriars Crown Court. Both where spared a trip to prison with Kaye being given a nine month sentence, suspended for 12 months with 80 hours of unpaid work while Kirton was sentenced to 18 months in prison, suspended for two years.
New Head for Nintendo of America;
“Tatsumi Kimishima, current chairman and CEO of Nintendo of America, is receiving a promotion to the role of general manager of Corporate Analysis and Administration, and general manager of the General Affairs Division; he’s replacing two retiring directors at the main NCL HQ in Kyoto. What’s more interesting is that a number of Kimishima’s responsibilities will be taken on by company President Satoru Iwata, meaning he’ll be working more directly with NoA President and COO Reggie Fils-Aime.” [From Nintendo Life]
So Nintendo is having a game of musical chairs, or musical bosses if you think about it. All this moving about comes from Nintendo saying that it has made ¥7,099 million which is better than the loss from last year.
