Well that’s another week done. So here’s more gaming news! Yay for you! Some may ring similar from last week… ehemm, SimCity… But other than that, standard week.
Here is the News!
Micro-transactions Come To COD;
On Wednesday a new menu appeared in Call of Duty: Black Ops II. In the menu you can by extra stuff. You can get a new camo-skin for 160 Points or the equivalent. (Was told that about $2, so work it out from that PS3 players. Don’t have BOII) And that’s pre camouflage and there’s a big list. You can also buy a Slots Pack which gives you 10 extra Create-A-Class slots, which (Least what DDGM Jonn) takes part of the point from presaging as you buy a slot with presage tokens. You can also get Personation Packs that give you 3 reticule’s anda calling card. With the recent arguments… I mean debates that have followed the rise of micro-transactions in AAA games. With people like EA saying hinting that micro-transactions might be in more AAA games, I might be time to get used to it and weld the Bacon Gun Of Death!
“Bioshock” Film Is No More;
In part game film news, Ken Levine (lead writer of “System Shock 2” and “Bioshock” and designer of the soon to be released “Bioshock Infinite“) said in an interview that he pulled the plug on the Hollywood’s adaptation to “Bioshock“. After the directors Gore Verbinski had dropped out and his replacement Juan Carlos Fresnadillo left the project everything seemed dim for the film. Levine hinted as well that he would only want the project made by his terms. With the history that Hollywood has with video games films I feel that he has every right to do that. “How many times in life do you not need to compromise? It comes along so rarely, but I had the world, the world existed and I didn’t want to see it done in a way that I didn’t think was right,” he continued. “It may happen one day, who knows, but it’d have to be the right combination of people.”
Capcom And Valve Crossover;
Not sure if fans of “Left 4 Dead 2” and “Resident Evil 6” would want to hear that characters will be crossing over to each others games. Rather then a spin-off or even a L4DxRE game it will just be a game mode. Well one game mode. In Resident Evil’s ‘The Mercenaries No Mercy’ mode will feature Coach, Nick, Ellis and Rochelle from Left 4 Dead and a the zombies The Witch and the Mini-Tank. “Left 4 Dead 2” will feature three new enemies from “Resident Evil 6”, the Lepotitsa, Napad and Ogroman. I’m not sure if I’m that impressed. It’s like Insomniac Games/Naughty Dog/Sucker Punch putting things from each others games back on the Playstation 2. If you a big fan that this is good news for you. But I have to say, I’m not lit up.
Games For Cats;
Purina, the guys that make pet food, are running a “Games For Cats Hackathon“. A competition with a $15,000 grand prize for making games cats would want to play. It may should silly but having an app or a game on you iPad or other touch stuff can be good to keep them occupied. Especially when you playing a game and the cat walking in front of the screen! Sorry, personal experience.
Expanding DUST 514;
EVE Online’s PS3 brother “DUST 514” is getting an update. The update lets DUST players have more sway in the EVE universe by getting control of districts on planets. Each “temperate planet”, so I guess habitable planet, will have 5 to 24 districts that can change hands. They will change hands between corporations. So a corporation with many EVE players and DUST players will rule all. It’s a decent update that connects the PC MMO and the PS3 FPS even more, considering you can already bomb planets in EVE and kill DUST players. This update come out in unknown. All this is planned. CCP say this year. I hope it happens. Something that connects the gamers of many platforms is always a good thing. Lets platform hatred. Also, EVE is celebrating is 10th Birthday this year! A staggering age for an MMO. It happens near a convention so you will hear more about it then.
Now here is the…
New Game News:
“Saints Row IV“. Not much has been said about it but going by the trailer it follows the anarchic comedy and extreme violence of its predecessor. And that’s a very good thing! Here the trailer;
Due August 23rd.
“Dead State” is an RPG zombie apocalypse game with many features. The combat is turn based which may turn of fans of other zombie games but its other mechanics are deep and make you consider other NPC’s and you tactics. It’s work in progress at the moment with a due date of December 2013. A game that RPG fans should look out for.
Work In Progress Demo
“Donkey Kong Country Returns 3D“. You never realise how long that title is until you have to type it out. Anyway, those who remember the “Donkey Kong Country Returns” (another long title) on the Wii will recognise this one. While it is getting a graphics update, it have some new material for the 3DS. It also now has a release date, 24th May 2013. Fans of the Kong now have something to look out for.
You properly know about “DC Online”. A MMO based on the DC universe. But did you know about “Marvel Heroes”? And that Gazillion Entertainment are offering Premium Packs to get some more stuff when you join up. Or if you don’t want to spend any money, “Marvel Heroes” is going to be free-to-play when it comes out in the spring.
A new Warhammer 40,000 Game is in the works. No information is out about the game but they have said who is making it. Slitherine. It’s ltd so just Slitherine. When THQ, that being Relic Entertainment be parenthood, went under Sega bought the “Dawn of War” licence so that ended that and lead to the new developer.
“Sid Meier’s Civilization V” is getting an expansion called “Brave New World“. The last Civilization game I played was 3. It was awesome even though I was terrible at it. The expansion adds, deep breath now: nine new civilizations, eight wonders, four gameplay systems, international trade routes making international trade routes, a new lead-in to the diplomatic victory and an entirely new cultural victory and two new scenarios. That’s a lot of stuff. And it comes out in the summer.
A new Call of Juarez game has been revealed. “Call of Juarez: Gunslinger” goes back to the western roots the game.
Here is the reveal trailer.
The x-ray, long-range shooting of Sniper Elite is firing off again. No I’m not talking about “Sniper Elite: Nazi Zombie Army“. I’m talking about “Sniper Elite 3“. It’s officially in the works. Developer Rebellion has said that is set in north Africa during World War Two and due out in 2014. Enough time to lets the zombies die I would think.
Timesplitters! A series I grew up on and I love it. But with Free Radical, now Crytek UK, not being Free Radical anymore there hasn’t been a Timesplitters game in quite a while. But some fans have been allowed to take the series and roll-with-it. They are going to make “Timesplitters Rewind”. Most of the multiplayer things, (like arenas, characters, etc,) and do them up with the CryEngine 3. And there going to release it for free. It’s PC only by the way. Depending how this goes, there might be a CryEngine 3 re-release of the series and maybe a 4th. But there’s a lot of maybe’s so just be happy with Rewind for the moment.
Enough of that. Back to headlining news.
Valve Business Increased 50% in 2012;
Valve is a big company. And it seems that over 2012 it has got even bigger. Even though they laid off employees a few weeks ago which lead many to think about how the finances of the company where handling, it turns out they where doing alright. With the news that “DOTA 2“, also made by Valve, broke most concurrent players records on Steam beating “Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim” to the title while only being in invite only and with the console codenamed Steambox out later this year too, Valve is not showing any signs of slowing. The 50% increase in business probably wont be the last.
Star Wars Battlefield of Duty 3;
Before Lucas Arts was taken over from Disney the future of many games went into the abyss. But a glimmer has been seen. Well a video has been leaked. “Star Wars: First Assault” was Lucas Arts take on first person games like “Call of Duty” and “Battlefield” and was being made before the take over. But has been done in silence for a while making its future uncertain. Until a video was leaked showing some gameplay. The video was taken off by you read this so no viewing for you. But interesting news is that it there is a reason why the game is being made quietly. The engine could be used to make “Star Wars: Battlefront 3”, a game that was being made my Free Radical before they went under and became Crytek UK. Free Radical never finished the engine for Battlefront.
No, don’t worry. “Minecraft” would never go that way. Notch is nice like that. But they have said that a new service called “Minecraft Realms” which is aimed at kids and families. The internet can be a swear filled place. That’s where Realms comes from. Realms would give subscribers a private slice of Minecraft with total control of who gets in to the world. Carl Manneh, CEO of Mojang, said “We have never tried to sell anything to our gamers except the game itself and a little merchandise, so it’ll be very interesting to see if the community will be prepared to pay for a service like this.” It’s a move that can work for Mojang. Minecraft is a good place for kids helping them learn and socialize with friends.
Here we ago again. To Cut down on space, here is another rundown on the SimCity fascio:
I would hope that this won’t be a 3 week thing. but I feel that would be too optimistic.
There is now a Berthesda Store. Simple enough really. If you want some Fallout gear or some Elder Scrolls scrolls, you know have a place to go to. There just expensive. Either way, merch is merch.
