February 14th 2013 marks a very important day for woman-kind as activists, organisations and just people alike will be taking to the One B Rstreets, walking out, and dancing, in honor of One Billion Rising, a global event to protest violence against women and girls. Happening on the 15th anniversary of the V-Day movement, another global campaign that occurred in 1998, OSR calls for a globe strike and urges woman and men alike to rise up against violence against women.

A Little Bit Of History

The V-Day movement was inspired by playwright and activist Eve Enster’s play ‘The Vagina Monologues’. And took place on February 14th 1998. V-Day’s visit was a world where women live safely, freely and like OBR calls for violence against women to stop immediately.

The Song

‘Break The Chain’ uploaded to Youtube on November 18 2012, is the theme song of One Billion Rising. It was produced by Eve Enster, directed by Tony Stroebel and written by Tena Clark. The video shows various women from across, what I expect, is the United States dancing and singing to the song. It is a very catchy tune that will have you feeling inspired, you will feel like you want to stand up and just dance to it. I enjoyed it. It might not be everyone’s cup of tea, but it does what it was made to do, feel inspired and get up and dance. That’s good because there are choreography videos that teach you the dance that happens in the music video. So you’ll partying and doing Flash Mobs in no time.
