7 Deadly Sins – Worth The Watch

Welcome to Worth The Watch, where we take a look at a series and see if it’s worth watching, or just a waste of time. This time we’ll take a look at the Netflix Original anime series 7 Deadly Sins.

The show is based on a manga with the same name, created by Kodansha in 2012. It’s a high fantasy series, following a young tavern owner joins a princess’ quest to find 7 traitors with immense power, dubbed the 7 Deadly Sins. But are they the true villains?

At first, seeing only stills from the show, I thought it was going to be a rather low quality anime. It looked like the type you’d see in the early 90’s. Boy, was I surprised, when the animation was smooth and nearly perfectly executed. The art style is quite impressive, especially for a series with such low budget.

I was glad to find out Netflix has the option to select Japanese with English subtitles. Nothing wrong with the English voice work, but with the original Japanese, the mouth movements make more sense. The dub work is excellent. It feels like it’s the characters talking from the situations they’re in. Not at all like some other shows, where it sounds like people sitting in a studio, recording their voices after the fact.

We see several plot twists in the first episode alone. I won’t reveal any of them here, but they all had me going “Whaaaaaat?” when they happened. It’s a well-written story.

I can, without a doubt, say that 7 Deadly Sins is Worth The Watch!
