4th Annual Fleet Week – Steamland Navies assembles

For the fourth year in a row, the Steamland navies of Second Life assembles for a one week long event, the Fleet Week. 

Starting November 11th with the Shipbuilders’ Expo and Shipbuilding Contest in New Babbage, you’ll get to see the finest ships Second Life has to offer. The contest ends on November 17th and you’ll have the whole week to vote for your favorites.

End the weekend with Tall Tales and Outright Lies, a collection of stories from the lives of many of the adventurous pirates at Armadan.

Other events:

Thursday Nov 15th:

Iron Melee at 5pm, Blake Sea. >> An epic naval skirmish featuring the navies of the steamlands, slugging it out on the open ocean. Events will include:

1) King (or Queen) of the Hill.  Your basic free-for-all. Last ship standing wins. 20 minute time limit.

2) Fleet Action. Based on a set of rules beiong prepared by New Babbage Commodore Jedburgh Dagger, taking into account points and ship numbers. The idea is to balance “big ship” and “mosquito ship” classes and everything in between.

Friday Nov 16th:

Windjammer Race.

Tall ships and wind-powered vessels to compete in this yachting race around the sailing field, before cheering crowds gathered on viewing stands. Trophies will be on hand for the winners. SL wind powered class and non-SL wind powered class will compete in different events. (Time to be announced)

Submarine Races.

The finest submariners – and their daring mechanical marvels – will line up to compete against each other in this underwater tournament. The Public won’t want to miss this epic event grid-wide famous for its underwater dirty tricks. Appropriate dress is encouraged.* Competitors are invited to test the race field in the days before the event. (Time to be announced)

Armadan Turtle Racing, 5PM.

>> Armada’s famous race returns for fleet week . Take one of our partially mechanized remade turtles and race through an obstacle course full of spike, fire, axes and explosives. All are welcome to test their piloting abilities, or come and watch the show.

Buccaneer’s Bash in Armada Breakaway! 7-9PM

>> Come join the pirates of Armada as we have our after action party for the fleet week races and battles. Non pirates are of course welcome as well.  (As an interesting note of history the term buccaneer originally referred to people who used bucans, small wooden grills popular in a few Caribbean islands. In honor of this our own Ceejay Writer will be grilling on the deck for the party. We may have one or two other surprises set up for the guests.)

Saturday Nov 17th

Fleet Review, 1PM 

The state-based navies of the Steamlands, in their finest regalia, proceed on a course taking them past reviewing stands in Port Babbage and Clockhaven Harbor, New Babbage. The Public is invited to attend.

Uniform Ball at Piermont Landing , 6PM

The public is invited to attend a inter-Steamland nautical-themed Ball hosted by Breezy Carver at Piermont Landing in New Babbage. Naval uniforms for officers and sailors are encouraged. Shipbuilding awards and race winners will be honored.
